| I have a new resolution, to learn at least one new thing a day. Yesterday I learned two!!!
1) Astigmatism is one word. It isn't "a stigmatism". Tricky!
2) John Stewart's real last name isn't Stewart! My whole image of him is blown.

| Last Night in Lincoln
Well, tonight is my last night in mid-America. Tomorrow, I will leave the land of the Huskers and return to the smog and quaking ground of the Inland Empire. Strangely, I am sad. I have grown fond of Lincoln, NE. Who knew how cool (not in temperature) it is out here. I had no clue they actually had trees! I did get to tour the area. Lincoln is a bustling college town. Over 40,000 students study here. Right now, it is pretty calm, as most have left for the summer.
People are SO NICE here. People talk to everyone! And, boy do they like to talk. I now understand Dean Curtis so much more!! I only met on cranky person. She probably isn't a native.
Union College is awesome. The campus is great and the cafeteria, let me just say "Oh, my!" LSU has lots of work to do!!! The food is actually good!!! But, I could not find an ounce of caffeine on the campus. I so needed iced tea. It is so hot here! Even Southern had some available (although, I don't know if they know that!). I won't tell where it is sold!
I finally went to the Licorice Store today. Let me just say, "Faulty Advertising!" How can the nation's largest licorice store not even sell Red Vines! They claim to have licorice from around the world...I think not. Sure, they had some from Australia, Finland, and other European countries, but they completely shun Africa, the Middle East, and Asia (every heard of Chinese licorice people?). And, the only US licorice represented was in the form of licorice flavored Jelly Bellys!
In addition to the obvious prejudice against Red Vines, they did not have Swedish Fish (come on, no Swedish fish!), no red ropes (you know, those thick long ropes we loved as kids), no Mike n Ikes, none of the sour licorice now so popular, and nothing from south of the border.
They had an enormous amount of black licorice. Who eats black licorice? Well, in that amount anyway. Come on, we all know it is all about the red.
Overall rating on the Jenn must-visit-tourist trap: 1 (out of 10). Don't waste your time. Go to the local grocery store for better choices. Unless, you want chocolate coated raspberry licorice (YUMMY)--then definitely make a stop here.
Tonight, on the way home, I wanted a drink so I stopped by Sonic. Kim Odle introduced me to Sonic in West Frankfurt, Ill. Well, those of you who know me know I have a hard time ordering at Sonic, still do! I just can't push that button and order. It just freaks me out that I push a button, order and some poor girl has to bring my stuff to me on roller skates. It is just a disaster waiting to happen. Plus, I know all the waitresses sit in there hating each customer because it means a new performance. But, I did it! I pushed the button and ordered an iced tea with extra ice (here, they don't use much ice...which I don't understand when it is 100 degrees outside!). Got the drink, paid and took off. While I felt proud of my Sonic accomplishment, I was shamed. I had no money to tip the waitress. But, I didn't feel too bad for long. As I drove off, I looked back and saw she wasn't in roller skates! What is the deal with that! After all the stress I endured to push the button, I deserve roller skates!
